"In recent years we have witnessed remarkable advances in biomedical sciences, in conjunction with engineering, technology, and information science, and we can look forward to even faster developments in the new century. While these progresses in science and technology have greatly enhanced our ability to combat diseases, the central focus of medicine will always be the people, their health, and their quality of life. Medicine is both art and science, and it is closely linked to our society, government, economy, and especially people. The future of medicine and our health depends on the collective effort of all people as we enter the new Millennium." |
